Default replacing gas cap

Hey everybody, I have a 66 coupe and want to replace the gas cap. I’m sorta new to all this so I’m learning as I go along. Is it simple? Is there somewhere I can get instructions on how to do it?

Thanks

Piece of cake. Open up your trunk and you'll see a nut which retains the cable on the other side. Remove nut, remove old cap, reverse. Make sure to keep the nut loose upon install until you're sure you have the cable and cap lined up correctly and installed and then do final tightening.

very easy. I had a 66 cap on my64 1/2.
the difference is that the 66 caps have a cable attached to them so that you don't loose the cap when filling.
The cable is attached to a metal piece at rear of car.
If you open the trunk and check the inside of the trunk at the same spot, you'll find a screw.
Unscrew the thing and you can pull out the cap with scable and this nut attached to string.
When you buy a new one you'll get the exact same kit.

PS: when mounting it. Make sure to put the nut in the hole where it was before. then screw on the cap so everything looks ok. Then tighten the nut in the trunk. Otherwise you might end up with the cable the wrong way round ;-)

i think I must be the only idiot who's writing a full blown article about a gas cap change ....

tip from me use to cork gaskets behind metal fuel pipe so the gas cap doesn't scratch you paint work, if it has already look for a gas cap guard period correct look a bit ****e but is on my 65!!Green burr who cares what sex the person is unless you want to sleep with them, yeah it an easy question to answer but I knew nothing about stangs until i researched to buy one and am still learning so cut some novices some slack we all have to learn, remember there are never any dumb questions just dumb answers. I know of at least one member of the fairer sex on this forumthat would kick my **** in the amount she knows about cars. rant over.

Thanks you guys. Yeah, I kinda felt like an idiot asking that question. It seems simple but this is my baby and I want to make sure I wasn't missing anything and wanted to get it right. Oh, I am a woman.I'm trying to most of the body and cosmetic stuff myself. This has been a wonderful hobby to have-keeps my mind off stressful things[sm=headbang.gif]!
