Lights DImming
I've noticed when im sitting at an idle, that my headlights, side marker lights, and tail lights pulse along witht he engine firing. Also the all the lights dim when i hit the brake lights,my gauge shows its charging at about 13.7 when running, isnt this right on? N also when im listenin to music, and it hits a bassy note, the cd player light dims a lil bit. Do i need to get a new alternator?
You need to do some checking for negative grounds being clean first. Also, test your alternator for voltage output. It could very well need replacement. If you have a hight power stereo unit, you may need to step up to a more voltage output alternator.
There are several ways to get more power at lower engine speeds. If you only require a little more power at lower engine speeds you may be able to use a smaller pulley. The smaller pulley turns the alternator faster at lower speeds thus making more power. When using a smaller pulley care should be taken not to over rev the motor. If you over rev the alternator with a smaller pulley the alternator can fail. The best way by far to obtain more power at lower engine speeds is to install an oversize alternator. The physically larger alternators produce more power at lower engine speeds and are much more reliable at higher outputs.
Installing a higher output alternator that is the same size as your original alternator will not give you more power at idle.
