The best subframe connectors are fabricated and welded in their full lengthto the floor pan and to the subframe front and rear.
How about rack and pinion steering,it makes all the difference in the world. And why not just build up the 302 you have, add AFR heads,10.1 pistons,a mild hyd roller, and a Holley 600 with a Torker II manifold. As for the trans,if it's going to be an auto get an AOD.
Have fun!

But, anyhoo, you could either have a personal slave for 5 years or 77 boss' in a place that doesn't exist. Your choice.

Do you have any specific sources or weblinks for those subframe connectors you recommend?

I had mine constructed at Cressman Race Cars in West Chester Pa.
The key is they are fully welded along both sides to the floorpan,in effect giving a continuous frame rail.

I'm big on body strengthening mods that tighten up the unibody all over. The mods I have made add some weight to the car but I don't plan on doing any competition racing. As the other posted said, the best subframe connectors are custom made ones. I made some for my 67 stang, I can send you pics if you PM an email. I have 1/4 L-beams running the length of the frame rails under the toe pan and front floor pan also.
I welded in additional metal into the firewall to reduce flex (especially where the pedals and brake cylinder are). If you are considering a hydraulic clutch this will help greatly. The lip of the firewall along the cowl I spot welded in 1 1/8 x 1/8 flat bar from end to end. Also replaced the side cowl panels with 16 guage steel and added 16 guage toe pans.
Right now I'm working on a hidden roll cage, it's taking a while but just got the tube bender in and have my dom metal purchased so things are gonna pick up.. I'm sliding a 1.5 OD x .120 wall tube inside the rocker panels for side impact protection along with roll caging the interior of the doors for same purpose.
The other biggie besides subrame connectors is a passenger side torque box. The best body mods are going to be the custom made ones that involve welding and your imagination.

yes they are right about having sub frame connectors besides the frame rail to rail have them tie in to the rocker pannel and maybe a x between the two if you want it really stiff. body mods are up to you make it look like a boss or mach1 or mix it up. for the tranny auto id use a aod built up for a t5 for a stick.for suspension id try http://www.opentrackerracingproducts.com/ or global west coil overs front heidts 4 link rear with the 9 inch housing but its up to you its your car and your money good luck let us know what you do to it

But for the mods, I'm using the fatman kit to convert my mustang to rack and pinion, power disc, and coil over suspension. The kit uses '94-'04 mustang parts so you can use that whole aftermarket to build your car.

And for the efi 5.0, I asked the 5.0 guys awhile ago looking foran everyday but with good gains cam, if your using the sn95 computer go with a steeda #19, or the fox computer a B303 or E303. https://mustangforums.com/m_2285881/tm.htm
remicks i dont like that kit its all oem parts besides who really wants a tempo/escort rack also it says you have to use a oem oil pan and something about the headers. id use this one over theres http://www.rrs-online.com/phase1products.php npd sells there parts so no huge shipping from aus to the usa
