remicks i dont like that kit its all oem parts besides who really wants a tempo/escort rack also it says you have to use a oem oil pan and something about the headers. id use this one over theres http://www.rrs-online.com/phase1products.php npd sells there parts so no huge shipping from aus to the usa
Cool, thanks for the info andrew, I'll look into the kit. I got my idea from hot rod magazine http://www.hotrod.com/projectbuild/1...tback_mustang/. I liked the fatman kit because of the fact you could use pretty much everything from the '94-04 aftermarket so its easier to get parts for if something fails, but I agree with you on the rack, butand the oil pan, headersand everything else stays stock.I calledfatman up and theysaid you can now trim the huge shock towers in you 64-66 to fit bigger motors and headers because you don't need the upper control arms anymore. Also no cutting into your car, best part. But I'm definitly going to look into the rrs kit, I emailed them for pricing, but could you give me idea for what it costs, thanks.

How much work are you willing to get yourself into?

I would like to hear from all you restomodders out there what you think are the best modifications to do to a 1970 fastback. I have mine strippedand ready for blasting. I just need some ideas on the rebuilding I already purchaseda 5.0 EFI motor and plan to do that. What transmission would you recommend.
I'm as die-hard a stick-shift fan as you will ever find, so I'll recommend either the World Class T-5 or a Tremec. For any sort of daily driver having an overdrive top gear lets you play with deeper axle gears. If youhad mentioned "347" or perhaps even "a strong 331", I'dprobably suggest the TKO instead BTW, the Tremec has a choice in some of the ratios. And at least with the Tremec, you may be in for some tunnel mods (I've been through a Tremec swap, although it was into another make).

Please be specific. For instance, I know that I need subframe connectors but please tell me what type, why, etc.
Best from a structural point of view would be straight between the subframes to straighten the load path out as much as possible. The end result is as stiff as your choice in tubing size and wall thickness can make it, and you won't have any little "kinks" that will flex (read: compromise stiffness AND become points where fatigue cracks would be more likely to form). That some floorpan mods might become necessary tends to work with any tunnel mod requirement in that you'd do the whole job just once. I've made this SFC suggestion elsewhere, and I know of at least one individual who has done it as part of a very serious and extensive effort. This person has also done some work with torque boxes.

I'm also aware of a few other chassis stiffening tricks that don't involve a roll cage.

Don't forget the underhood bracing.
At the very least a stock export brace and Monte Carlo bar.Or,there are some good bolt on aftermarket ones by TCP and others.
I had mine fabricated then chromed.

Underhood bracing is a must, but if you are going the efi route you won't be able to use a stock style export brace, the intake manifolds will be in the way. This brace will work http://www.totalcontrolproducts.com/tower.html, and you can make a whole system out of it with a monte carlo bar from them.
