is it difficult too tub the rear just a bit to allow for a wider tire? Any how to articles? Waste of time?

how big a wheel/tyre are we talking about?
Most people settle for rolling the lip
totub it properly is a lot of work soI dont think too many would do it for "just a bit" of extra clearance

You can mini-tub the car by seperating the two halfs of the wheel well and moving the inner one flush with the outside of the frame rail. Then fill in the spave with a strip of metal. This along with some rolled lips and you should be able to run a 295 on a 65/66 and a 315 on 67/68 and maybe even bigger on 69/70.

I'll have to get custom offset wheels, but should fit 315/35/17 no problem.
