Default clutch master cylinders.

well i bought the new clutch master cylinder and it doesnt line up with the clutch pedal hole... it needs to be mounted a little under an inch lower to work. can i modify the clutch pedal by drilling a new hole below the original one? will this pose any problems?

the previous clutch master cylinder that was on there was made so when it was mounted it was on an upward slant on the inside of the cabin so it would line up to the original hole... this new one is not on a slant therefore itneeds to mount lower on the pedal.

All the classic mustangs that are being converted to hydraulic clutch need to drill a hole in the firewall and then drill the clutch pedal. So, I don't see why it would hurt to redrill your pedal. Do a search on this site. There have been discussions reguarding the conversion. Maybe that will help you.

Actually, check out JamesW website. I think he has step by step instructions on the set up. Did you get a CNC type master cylinder?

Re-drilling the pedal assy. an inch lower should not hinder the opperation of the clutch, but it will make the pedal harder, (it will be harder to push the clutch), just how much harder will depend on the difference in distancefrom the original hole and the new hole from the fulcrum point (or pin) on the pedal assy.

The only other possible complication might be that he new master cylinder may run out of travel before theclutch pedal reaches the floor, this issue should not pose a real problem.

thanks for the replies gentleman. i ended up redrilling the clutch pedal about 3/4" lower than the original hole. i've bled it out and she works like a champ. the pedal does not extend out as far as it used to but its fine. i may adjust the brake pedal slightly to move it down a little to match up a little better

Glad to hear it worked. I am going to use a top loader I bought off Craigslist here in Alaska. It came with the factory installed Hurst shifter. This is the web site I will be buying my parts from. I think I got this link from JamesW

If the pedal is too low, you may have to extend the clutch Master Cylinder rod so it will be to your liking. I made an adjustable length attachment to the rod so I could dial in the height. It was basically a short bar that had female treads on one end and male threads on the other. The male threads attached the heim joint and the female threads attached to the clutch rod.

guys, athough i've replaced the clutch master cylinder... i'm still lacking reverse however. i can hold it reverse for dear life and pull back hard as hell and get her to roll backbut not always... it's just not making it all the way into the gear... earlier, when i did succeed to get it all the way into reverse,it just kicked it back out of gear again when i started to let out the clutch. it grinds badly when this happens and is not only embarassing but just flat out terrible. does this seem likea tremec synchro problem? this tranny is supposedly new. its just doesnt seem right.

I'm considering installing a fluid clutch in the 65. My question to you is will the master cylinder interfere with a power brake booster?
