Who has posi?
Sorry to hijack the thread, I have 2 grant racing wheels, one is stock size and one is 2 inches smaller diameter.I would like to put them on and see which is better. They unbolt and change over real easy on the hub included with the wheel. I still cant get the stock wheel off of the car to put on my hub to test them out. And im not a fan of the stock skinny large diamater wheel( + mine is cracked) -Jon

As long as you're doing that, go with a 9" and get it over with. I regret not doing that before and now its costing me more.
if you buy a junkyard posi 9" chances are you will have to rebuild part or all of it (at least the clutch packs)
btw my car has 31 spline 9" posi, 3.55, billet axles.
time over again, i would bypass the posi and go straight to a detroit tru-track. I couldnt tell you the price differences but the driveability is much better IMO.

Have a locked posi in my 70 fastback. It was in there when I bought it so I dont know the gearing Its fun to drive but my only drawback that I have is when I turn sharp it studders in the back in. If you have ever diven a locked 4 wheel drive truck on dry pavement and tried to turn you get that studdering. That is what my car does. I have been told that there are 2 versions of the posi that you can put in. One is a full lock system and the other is a limited slip. I would recommend the limited slip unless you are drag racing. It will be ALOT better on you tires and will still drive nice
Had a limited slip originally in the Jeep I used to own. I installed a Detroit as I built it for Rockcrawling. On the street, it chirped like a mother on turns and even on moderately curved streets. Forget about curvey moutain roads. Chip, chirp, chirp. To keep the wheels spining "normal" on turns, you have to go pretty slow. And who wants to do that in a Stang?
Unless my Mustang was going to spend most of its life down a straight track, there is no way I would put a full locking diff in it. A limited slip is much better for street driving while still allowing for good control under most situations.
My 2 cents.

Depending on the horsepower your putting out and how hard you are on the car an 8" will stand up to about 400 horse. I ordered mine years ago from Drive Train Specialists(DTS) and have nver had an issue with them. Here are a couple of links:
