Default Pertronix Swap

Last night I finally put in the Pertronix Ignitor (along with a flame thrower coil) after looking at them for almost a week.

I have to say it was, in fact, one of the easiest things I've done to my 67 mustang. It took me little more than 30 minutes. It would have been much quicker, but I've never ventured under my distributor...embrassingly enough I've never replaced my points.

So here's my question: Now that I have the Ignitor and Flame Thrower (original, not "II"), do I need to regap my spark plugs? I've found conflicting information on the web, mostly related to different makes and models. I'm running a tired stock 302. It appears to be running just fine without any adjustments...although timing is next on my list.

In case anyone else is interested (and nervous as I was) about the swap, here are a few links w/ pictures that held my hand through the process.

You don't have to, but if you gap them a tad wider you can get a bit more spark. You will also be burning out the plug faster. Without any other upgrades, I would say to leave them alone.

Soaring, on that note, is the pertronix compatible with an MSD 6A?

Can't say it does...can't say it don't. But if you're going that route, with the 6A, then go for the billet distributor. I have the pertonix on the 67 and the MSD billet and 6A on the 69. Both are good.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work, but you may as well use all MSD stuff.
