Default 351w alternator Headache!

Sorry about bringing this topic up again, but I can not figure out what I am doing wrong here!

I have a 1970 351w in a '67 coupe - took it apart over ten years ago and now trying to put it back together. I couldn't get the original mount to work so I got one from a salvage yard - it doen't seem to line up either. So I bought a kit off ebay and the bolt holes don't line up with this either!! I figure I must have the right parts but I am lacking the intelligence to assemble the parts! I'm learning why they call this a hoppy, I could never make a living at this!

Anybody have a close up photo of an alternator mounted on a 351w??

I had to get an alternator tree to make my alternator fit on the 351W in my 67.I modeled my 67 after the 1969 351W setup. ie. brackets, pulleys etc.

Here is a pic of my setup.

That's exactly what I need. Any idea where I could pick one of those "tree's" up??

They sell them in NPD or other catalogs for cheap money.

I couldn't make mine fit either so I called Freddy at Mustang Masters and he explained to me what I needed. soI bought one from him..... For $100.00. (kapow!)

The way I figure it, I paid a 70.00 premium for the education.

Ignorance is expensive.

Found this on Year One: does this sound right?

"Alternator mounting hardware fits 1969 351W V8 models. Includes 4 pieces. $17.80"

I'll give them a call and see is it contains that tree bracket.

You have most of what you need right there. With the tree bracket, you will want to use thepainted brackets in your picture. That is a setup for a pre-70 Ford small block alternator setup. They should have a C9 or below part number on them.

The bare brackets are for 70 and up.

As far as the setup you found, it is hard to beat the price.
However, if I may suggest, that you use only what is necessary out of that kit and use your factory brackets as much as possible. I find it difficult to believe that for 17.80 that you will find a better looking 4-piece bracket setup than what Ford designed. Besides, factory just looks so cool.

Jeff-

First off, I have to thank you for having this problem. I went out to my car to take a picture of my alternator tree for you and I noticed that the bottom bolt that attaches the tree to the block had worked its way loose. I wouldn't have even noticed it was loose until my alternator had fallen off! Anyway, here is a picture of my setup. You can see the loose bolt in the picture.

Good luck!
