Default 71 dome light

My 71 coupe is missing the door tag and I couldn't decipher if it was pre 6/1/71 or post. There wasno dome light in it when I got it but the wirewas there with a round bulb. Now I ordered the post 6/1/71 dome light b/c of cost and this car is definately not original, motor is different, interior, body color, etc. It's not concours so I am wondering if the post 6/1/71 will fit/ screw into the pre 6/1/71 holes and how to wire it. Haven't found any good pics of either setup. Looks like just one wire leads to one connection and the other is grounded by the screw to the base?Does this sound correct?

Thanks for the help all.

p.s. floor is all cleaned up and about to be painted with por 15. Will post picsfor those who were following my earlier thread.

Default RE: 71 dome light

More or less, almost all the lights on a Mustang use chassis ground, the light bulb housing screwed down. The dome light should operate like all other Mustangs, automatically when a door is opened or with the instrument cluster dimmer part of the headlight switch. There are two courtesy lights under the dash that go on at the same time.
