Great to hear your progress. You have gotten ahead of me because I am just now painting the roof and rear quarters. Hood, trunk lid, front fenders anre all done bbut not mounted. Doors are done and put back on car.

I am looking forward to seeing your pictures. Can you include what type of polishing compound you are using? I am using the Turtle wax as recommened in the original posting but it is an old (mature?) product and I am wondering if there is anything better now.

I follow up the polishing with Meguir's Glazing compound which bring the shine up another level. I haven't applied wax yet but am thinking about going with NXT whch is expensive but apparently puts a good gloss on the paint. Has anyone tried it?

ok guys...here they are. i still need to do some more polishing but that can wait for another day. overall i am very impressed with my results. i have gotten countless compliments from my neighbors. my uncle even came over today (he is alsoa mustang guy) and said its 100x better than what you would get at macco or some other $500 paint job and it cost me about $130 total for supplies including polisher and compounds. i am very satisfied and hope everyone else has as much if not more success than me.im actually waiting on some emblems and the grille to arrive so i still have some more stuff left.

yes...just a standard rustoleum enamel. to polish the car i started out with a turtle wax rubbing compound to remove the major scratches and moved to turtle wax polishing compound followed by a meguiers clay bar with cleaner wax. heres a link to a web site that shows you what to do http://www.rickwrench.com/50dollarpaint.html

be forewarned though...it took him 7 coats but it took me about 17 so i think it depends on the color you use. mine is called sunrise red for anyone interested. oh and here are some before pictures

edit: im sure there are some better compounds/polishes outh there but after i waxed the car it brought everything out to a satisfactory shine. oh and i was not able to track down a circular polisher at any local stores so i ran up to wal-mart and snagged a $14 orbital 6" polisher. it took longer but worked fine. it was actually recommended to me to use an orbital so i wouldnt burn the paint.

i think it would stick but ive heard that it would just be a waste of time and money because if it fades you can just polish it out again. i cant wait until i get all of my trim and emblems...that should really make it look better.

Edit: Oh and i just want to say "I told you so" to everyone who said i wouldnt finish the project.
