Default rebuilt 289

This might b e dumb question, but hear goes.
How long can I expect a 289 engine to run before it needs to be rebuilt again? It was bored 30 over during the rebuild, how do you know it time to rebuild before you have done damage to the block and have to bore it out again?

I plan on giving thie car to one of my kids when I get too old to drive it (in about 40 years).[8D]

with modern ring and seal technology, you should be able to get over 200,000 miels out of a quality rebuild - but theres never a point where you could stop and rebuild it and then not have to bore it. every mile you put on the motor wears it out that billionth of an inch, and needing to be bored is inevitable.

chances are though, unless you specified certain components to be used in your build - 100,000 miles is a good number.

You know when you: burn oil at an unacceptable rate or loose compression to the point there isn't much go or you begin hearing unwelcomed sounds like tapping and knocking, ect. or a combination of these and other symtoms.

Yeah, your first indication is usually the excessive oil burning. My original 289 has 130K on it and does not burn a drop. When I reach about 250K it will most likely need an overhaul, then I will probably get another 100K out of it. You already have a 0.030 over on it, and you may not be able to go to 0.040 later. 0.060 has been done, but very thin walls and overheating problems. You may want to consider not driving that old dinosaur so much and just use it for a weekend cruiser if you expect that 289 to be inherited by your grandkids.

You can also by aftermarket blocks, either production 302 or race blocks, or you can sleeve blocks. Sleeves are fine for street and drag cars, but anything that sustains continuous high rpm a sleeve may have cooling issues.

I was afraid you were going to say that. I do not want to go to 60 over. The block in the car is orginal I am running full synthetic oil. I just wanted to know if this emgine would survive another rebuild.
I do only drive the car on the weekends so it will probably be several years before I get to that 100k mark. I was just wondering what the future for this vert will be. The hard part is deciding witch one of my 4 kids get the car. I am only 33 and my two older ones have all ready dropped hints about it.

About $140 as long as you are having other engine work done, setup costs.
That's per cylinder and most mechanics recomend not doing two next to each other.
