Ok, my turn for a question.

I have a 66, with woodgrained steering wheel. I am and have been hearing metal to metal sounds when I turn the wheel. So I am going to take it apart this weekend and fix it (ha, ha, ha). the horn works, the blinkers work. I got the rebuild bits from NPD, and want to know if there are any pitfalls, or gremlins I will unleash.

If there is anything I should watch out for, and members know something I dont (that is a lot probably), please let me know. I figure I will post this before sunday night at 11pm when my knuckles are raw, and the beer is gone.

Watch out for the springs going 'bye-bye'. Look for rub marks on the bottom of the wheel to the top of the column. You may need to 'push' the column down about an 1/8 of an inch.

I am cerain I will lose springs. Hopefully the kit is complete!

 

Take a good look before you take it apart (pictures are a must), reassembly was a 'several times' operation if I remember.
