Any cam that is listed as a power range that goes up to 6,000rpm is gonna need very good heads, intake, exhaust and gears to work right. And either an aftermarket stall converter or a manual trans
Well I think i'm covered other then my intake (which is a performer; could just switch up to a performer rpm or like). Tranny is a toploader, I have edelbrock aluminum heads, 600cfm edelbrock carb, long tube headers, 3:25 gears. The engine is balanced, bored .040 over on fresh rebuild, 10:1 compression.

However it is a DD, and I want to keep the idle around 800-850 rpm. Also don't want to have to rev it up like a sports car to get off of every red light and stop sign.

Thanks for the input.

Then get a roller cam with an rpm range listed as around 1,500-5,500. 3.25 gear prolly won't be enough for a 6,000rpm+ roller cam with a toploader. I got a toploader too, 1st is long enough as it is. You don't want a big cam in a dd. Mines a dd and this is the cam I'm using(got it at summit for $179, for 1.7rr)

With good heads/intake and a decent cam and exhaust you can still make good power and have streetability

Yeah, make sure you get the right firing order cam, 351W and 302 HO use a different order than 289/302

Thanks again for your input. I found this cam :

and thought it might be a good choice as its specs are a bit more agressive then my current cam and I already have Edelbrock heads:
