Cobra valve covers

I went thru my old 35MM picture files (pre digital camera) and found a picture I took of the engine compartment of 6S001, the 1966 GT350 prototype. A friend of mine was doing some minor work on it for the car's new owner. Note the low profile valve covers.

The early 66s are refered to as carry-over cars. I think that it was the first 256, but that could be off by a few. They were actually 65 model cars that Ford sent Shelby to get ready for the 66 model year. You will also notice that the block is black, like a 65. If you had a different angle shot, you would also see an aluminium water pump, 65 hipo motor mounts,etc...That's why it also has those valve covers. It also has a 65 dashpad and door panels.Hope that helps.
This was not a carry over. It was pulled out of the mix and modified, first with a blue vinyl top then modified into the 66 GT350 prototype for sale purposes. It has a a lot of 65 items, like the engine, but has a 66 instrument cluster,Pony seat covers, T-bird inside door handlesand a small tach.

Hi again.
Yeah, I know the car. It sold at auction recently for something like $260,000, more or less. It's Ford vin is 5R09K****** , not 6 ,which is what a carry over-over car is. It was the only one with pony interior. A pretty nice car, not perfect, but very presentable.

Cool.
Your friend got a pretty neat car. That would make it easy to ****** one of those rivets out and swing the Shelby tag out of the way to look at the Ford vin. That particular car has had the tag removed a couple of times already, so you wouldn't be messing up an original rivet or anything.I seem to remember that car having had it's motor replaced, so it doesn't have the vin stamped block any more, but I could be mistaken on that.

The VIN andhistory were verified prior to the auction plus the previous and the current owners got together for some small talk afterwards. When you put out big bucks, it's checked. I just help out on the small things.

Hi again.
The 65 GT-350s had the open letter, bare aluminium vale covers. They started using the black, closed letter type on the 66s. Here are a couple of pictures of 65 Shelbys. Both are real cars, not clones, and both are double digit cars, as in two of the first hundred.Hope that helps.

Yeah, Heim joints. What else did you see? Spring on the ghood, ballast resistor, some ducting in the lower left, an oil filler breather with out any hose to air cleaner, some heavy duty spark plug wires, coil mounted on the left head.
