Cobra valve covers
What is the deal with Cobra valve covers? I just purchased a '67 convertible and the 289 has Cobra valve covers. Is this just something that could have been added as a dress-up item? Or, is there another reason.

I have Cobra valve covers on my 67's 351W. Just had them laying around and they fit, so why not.
Will replace them with something nicer down the road though...

The only cars they came on were Cobra's and Shelby Mustangs. Any others were over-the-counter from Ford or after-market after Ford stopped selling them. The 1st were the hollow-letter and later the solid letters.
Ok, so do we have an expert here who can identify a true Shelby cover from an aftermarket one? If so, come back with your expert advice and a way to identify a truely original Shelby cover as opposed to a fake.
Hello.
The real open letter valve covers weremade by the Buddy Bar Casting Co, and theyhave that cast into the valve cover on the inside. On the latter closed letter valve covers, which are black with the fins and letters machined and sort of shiny natural aluminium, the letters are shaped a little differently than the repops. The first picture is a real one and the second is repop. Hope that helps.
