Default New Issue - HELP

I was on my way to school today when my car shuts off, i coast to a stop simply thinking its the battery giving me troubles (i have an extra in the car) but I open the hood and see my fusable link pretty much on fire. I grab it and move it away from all the other wires it was sitting on, and it cooled down and stopped burning in a few seconds. What could cause this!

The fuseable link burned off at the weakest point, right at the end, so there isn't a way that I see to resplice it with a new one. Maybe a new harness is in order [:@]. But what can cause this? I have a 100 amp alternator on there, if the voltage regulator is bad could it cause the circuit to overload and burn out my fuseable link? What are the things I should check/replace to fix this problem, please help!

Needless to say it was a bad but interesting morning, had to get towed home (9 miles) and was just a pain.

Ford put them cursed things in there for a reason. Did you somehow overload your system?

I just took a quick look at a 69 wiring diagram and could not find a fusable link. Could you be a little more specific as to where under the hood your problem occured.

I'll get a pic tomorrow when its light out. The fuseable link is off the end of the wiring harness (engine bay) and mine connects to the starter solenoid.

and I'm assuming I overloaded the system to be able to cause what happened, I just need to know what could cause the overload, big alternator, bad voltage regulator? Maybe battery?
