65 convertible?
Torque boxesare 3 sided, but not directly under the seat. They are under the firewall area below your feet,on the outside of the toe kick pan. Verts do have supports under the seats on the bottom side of the floor pan that a piece of plate steel bolts both sides together but aren't torque boxes. I believe they are called floor supports. I just bought all of the above metal for my '65 vert.
Waldo, just have to really be careful and look at everything. Poke, push,if the seller will let you, pour a little water in the cowl vent and see if it leaks through to the floor of the cars. I'm not sure about all6 cyl. stangs,I know my 65 6 cyl. fastback didn't have any.You don't want to end up with a ton of bad metal..............trust me
Hello.
Here's a picture. If you look to your left of the header, you will see what looks like a flap of metal overlapping the frame rail and welded along the edge. That is the lower part of the torque box assembly. As far as how to tell if the top is leaking goes, assume that it does, since it does.
Drive it in the rain if you want to locate precisely the leaks that you will be pretty much powerless to stop, and that will tell you where they are. The leaks along the top of the door windows you can actually do a little something about, but where the ftont of the top hits the header bar, that is going to leak. Hope that helps.

I got this little device called 'Spot Rot', an Autobody Damage Guage. It's supposed to tell you the thickness of metal by using a built-in magnet. It looks like a short stubby pencil. On a painted body panel, it will give you the thickness; and falls off with too much bondo. On a rusty panel, it will give the thickness of steel left. It scares the hell out of someone who's trying to sell a 'rust free' car. Don't know where I got it, Eastwood maybe.
