Default engine overhaul parts

it gonna look like i will rebuild my 289 although the overbore of 060 , the specialist took a look at the block and told me if it would be for himself he would do it , cylinder walls look good , crank and camshaft looks good , the bearings didn't look bad either but he would replace them anyway but my piston rings were worn and aged, and valves have been leaking too. ( but next week i will hear more about another possibly available 289 block before i make my final discision)

i simply thought to order a gasket kit , piston rings and rod/main bearings somewhere on ebay... but now i notice all kind of brandnames and prices....are there brands i should avoid and what are good ones ( price quality ) for a street car ?

brandnames i came across
fel pro gasket($90) , Torque Master rebuilders gasket kit ($19 !!) , ROL ($43)
( i think they are good?)
hastings , speed pro moly (fed mogul?) ,piston rings)
Mahle Inc , Clevite , acl bearing , king , federal mogul , dura-bond... etc... (bearings)
and at ebay store from mohring racing i see a kit (although not my oversize) that contains all above for $95

i would think never get the cheapest.. but the most expensive is often not needed either?
when i would buy here here locally.. i would have to pay $400+ for total so it looks interesting to shop a bit around on ebay

thank you

I have always heard that Fel Pro gaskets are the best and well worth the money.

Default RE: engine overhaul parts

i just ordered the parts for my rebuild, and after alot of searching i found a place (via ebay) that beat out summit on every item and can get just about any part you need. an order that would have cost 250.00 from summit cost 203 from these guys.

this is the kinda place machine shops order their stuff from, they have an ebay store but the best way of going about it is to just call them up and tell em what you need.

1-800-756-1114 ext. 166 - just tell em you found them on ebay.

heres my recommendation for mid range items, quality stuff but without worring about breaking the bank......

pistons - federal mogul / speed pro hypereutectuc coated skirt flat top piston
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku

rings - anything moly from speed pro (federal mogul) / hastings / perfect circle (dana) will be fine - they all make a quality product

bearings - i have heard acl's are good, mahle actually makes OEM bearings and pistons for many car companies so you know they are good, and kings are kinda cheap (from what i hear)....but the standard is either federal mogul or clevite 77's - i ended up with clevite 77's but i wouldnt have cared either way.

gaskets - rol's are ok, victor reinz stuff is good, hell even the cheaper enginetech stuff works good - but felpro is the ol' standard and you cant go wrong with them

cheap insurance.... pick up a arp hardened oil pump driveshaft, they are like 15 bucks. also, arp 5/16 rod bolts because stock rods are the weak link.

oil pump - melling m68a (high pressure pump)

timing chain - i chose a cloyes clo-9-1138 which is a double roller and it'll only run ya about 40 bucks.

have fun!
