Default C4 Tranny filter question

I am changing my gasket and filter on my C4 transmission. When I took the bolts out of the filter and removed it a Spring with a small valve\pin fell out into the pan. I can see where it fits into a hole in the valve body and is held in place and compressed by the filter. Question: Does the valve/pin side of the spring/valve go Up or down??

Thanks
Ray

I read where they call it a throttle pressure limit valve. if it is not installed correctly you can have slow shifts.
Does anyone know the orientation of this valve? Spring side up or valve side up?

Heres a line from a repair guide

Remove the eight screws that attach the oil screen to the body and remove the screen and gasket. Be careful not to lose the throttle pressure limit valve and spring when separating the oil screen from the valve body

It does not tell you the way to install it!

Here's a picture of where it goes

Hey RayM,
I just had the same problem. The little valve goes in first you said? Is the skinny end of it in the the spring, and so the spring sits against the filter? Cause i installed the spring, with the little valve against the filter and the car won't shift very well in drive.

Thanks.

Update.
Flipped it around and voila. She drive normal again But, now i'm trying to figure what year of transmission i really have. Not finding any markings that are consistant with my findings on the net. Weird.
