Starter overheating
I just put a 342 stroker in my '65 mustang. It's 11:1 compression and I have a stock starter. It starts fine when cold but once the car gets warm and you shut it off, it won't start for hours. The battery is good and the alternator is charging. It is acting as if the starter isgetting heat soaked. So I put ceramic coated headers and a heat shield on the starter and it is still just as bad. Do you guys think I need a different starter or is there another problem? Any starter recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance ya'll.
It's not a voltage drop, the car starts fine, but not when hot. Obviously it can be turned by hand, it was built right. I know a 16 minute quick test but thanks for the input.
Iwasn't trying to upset you. Shouldn't be so quick to get your panties in a bunch. I was just explaining that I've already been through the basics. 16 minute quick test is a series of starting and charging tests.
+1 on the PMGR mini starter. They are less prone to heat soak from headers due to their size. You might also try retarding your timing a couple of degrees and see if that helps.
