Single wire voltage regulator question:
I've got the single wire voltage regulator, purchased from NPD. It's the one that bolts right on to the back of the alternator. I just want to check up on something: the instructions say to wire one of the wires (I think it's the red one, I can't remember off the top of my head) to the alternator warning light. My car has no such light, however I do have an alternator gauge. Does the wire coming from the voltage regulator get connected to the gauge? If it does, how do I figure out which wire it is that goes to the gauge?
Thanks
Thanks
is it the 67 289 ?
i've never seen a car without this indicator light. that's very unusual.
Normally any car you turn on ignition (and don't start) should have those 2 warning lights coming on in console. (one for oil pressure and the other for alternator).
Can anyone confirm that this is the case in a 67 ? that it's missing ?
my best bet would be green/red coming of alternator regulator (connection A). But your best bet would be to send the wiring diagrams to manufactor or ask NPD what they say ...

Unfortunately, turning the key will do nothing, because the car is in about a hundred million pieces right now. However, all the pieces to the gauge cluster are right next to me here by the computer. I took the entire thing completely apart to clean up, repaint, roll back the odo, test the gauges, etc. I can tell you for certain that there is no alternator light in there. Unless it's somewhere else in the car, I don't have one in my 67 or my 68 (the two cars are becoming one car). The only lights in there are the turn signal indicators, high beam indicator, brake warning light, and on the 68 cluster there is a seat belt warning light. Do you guys with the 64 - 66 cars have the gauge as well, or just the light?
we just have an on/off light.
it works kinda in such a way that it gets power from ignition on one side and ground from the alternator. this is why it's lighting when ignition is on.
As soon as you start the car and alternator goes, you have + on both sides of lamp-> hence it's off
faulty regulator causes the lamp to go on again.
what you have is a gauge. I don;'t have one, but the way it must work is that it has constant ground and + from aletrnator on the other side. So this way you measure the voltage on the gauge.
The cable from the alternator should be the same though.
how many cables go to thios alternator gauge (one or two) ? what colours?
does the gauge look like this
0V -------- 12V
or
10V-----12V-----14V
?
