Default body panel alignment

As I am putting the car back together, it seems like the body is a little misaligned and it is hard forme to tell if it is aftermarket body panels or the body - I had a body shop use a frame straightening maching to replace the front left frame rail and the left looks about a 1/4" higher than the right. That said, the car is still a shell and it may just be that there is no weight on the car and it has all new suspension parts that I have not tighted yet (waiting until I put the engine to tighten).

What do you guys think, should I just wait a couple weeks until I am ready to put the engine (putting new 8" posi rear end and want to plumb/wire before putting the engine?

Hereis before

Getting there

and the problem

ok, here is a current after last weekend's work that shows the problem - check the left right side, I tried to split the difference but it is still a little noticable

I have the same problem, and since I don't know if the car has been wrecked prior, alignment might just be an issue I have to deal with.

Do you know if the cars used shims at all, my fenders had none when I pulled them off, but they might help my alignment problem.

Your car is looking very nice, and I think you will be your worst critic when it come to the alignment problem, most people won't notice.

Same problem here, just keep tinkering with it and you will get it.One of the things you can try ( i'm sure you have) is to mess with the hood hinges.A very little movement can turn into a big adjustment sometimes.I have been to the point several times where I said to myself "Good Enough" only to work a little more a few days later and get it a little closer.
I also agree with deebo in that you will be your own worst critic.I have a friend with the same year car that comes over and looks at mine and says wow thats looking nice.My reply most times is Yeah BUT.........

Normally a lean like that would indicate to me a frame alignment issue. However, after reading your post I'm going to guess that its nothing more then a suspension issue. May simply be a case of one shock not being fully compressed after install. I'd put some weight on the driver side fender to see if that helped level her out.

Without the suspension bveing bolted in tight, any one of the components could be the culprit.

thanks guys,

ya I do tend to see all the imperfections -I did this car with my sons from the shell up and so you notice it all because you've spent the hours to see it all I reckon

I should have the engine in a few weeks so I'll see how she goes then - with all the new suspension pieces and the bigger sway bar, the car won't hardly go down at all with me standing in the engine compartment and bouncing.........

dnswwood, I can relate to the tinkering piece - we must have spenthours on the fenders and came back yesterday and finally got all the front panel seams tight (with the aftermarket hoodand fender itwas a ****) - that said we went really slow to keep from chipping paint, whew
