my car had the same problem of leaving occupants smelling like gasoline...i had a bad gas tank hose (the part that goes from the top where u fill it into the trunk u know that gas tank hose) and i replaced it, got new seals and tighend them and bam! it was good as new...

hmmm, I need to look into this as well. My clothes always smell like gas after I drive mine.
My wife even calls it "the stinky car".
I knew it wasn't supposed to be that bad, but I figured it was mostly due to the lack of cats. Maybe I'll check the carb.

Your carb should bea Autolite 2100 - check at this website to compare pictures and to confirm it. If itis a 2100 then it isa VERY good 2 barrel carb.Check at this website to see if your carb looks like one of their 2100's. http://www.ponycarburetors.com/
I'd recommend keeping it and rebuilding it. A fellow on Ebay "Roefastford" sells rebuild kits for the 2100 that are nice quality.
I have a Autolite 4100 that I had rebuilt by Pony Carbs - looks fantastic, can't wait to turn the key on the motor soon.
