Yes the plan is to strip the car down to the metal and have it either primered at a shop, body work/assembly at home, and then painted at a shop. Or after its to the metal get it sent to the paint shop have it painted with all the pieces done seperately and do assembly at home. Either way, we'll assemble ourselves and they'll just paint the car. I still think soda blasting will be OK, I have a camaro magazine that went in detail about it and it praised it up and down. The left over dust in the nooks and crannys won't be a concern I would think... I dunno what would be better though, to have the car assembled prior to paint or primerer then assemble then paint, or done in pieces where we assemble at home. I want the paint job to last for quite awhile.

Still figuring out the best outside/inside color. I definatly want Acapulco Blue..and no black or white interior. I think a nice grayish color inside would look nice.

Media blasting would definetly be easier than what I did, I sanded it down by hand with a couple DA sanders. It took about a month because there were about 3 layers of paint and primer on it. I would say that painting all of the pieces individually would be a better route to take, it will be a better looking job if you have all the pieces painted individually.

Michael, This is really funny, but down here in Silicon Valley, that is average for paint. As a result, we send our cars out of the area to - guess where, Oregon. Labor is cheaper up where you are. The paint costs are about the same.

What does a typical paint job include? Etch Primer, Primer, 2-3 coats of paint and clear coat right?

My "uncle" owns a bodyshop/paint shop but he's the last resort, but Im sure he can get me the paint and primer for cheap when Im ready.

I'd get myself a really nice convertible or fastback for that price. personally to me I wouldn't even pay 3g's for paint.

My uncle's painting my car. He's not a body shop guy, but painting cars is hobby of his and he seems to be doing a pretty good job so far. I'll just have to wait and see how the car turns out once we get the base coat on. I owe him big time for this one.

When I repainted my old 86 I spent about $700 in paint alone(it was red pearl and charcoal pearlthat jacked the base up a bit). A good job around here starts at 2500 and goes up from there..
