Got a Quote for paint
In the town over yonder there is a Rod and Custom shop. Well I went in there today to ask about a quick estimate. The guy straight told me he doesn't half-@** paint jobs and they can cost as much as $15,000 and then precedded to show me a car with a job as such. It was like looking in a mirror it was so good. He then showed me around $10,000 job. I said eh still little expensive and he said he could do one for about $6,000. That's with us doing all body work. He wanted to see the car and I said it was still apart awaiting sand or soda blasting. He said not to use either and get it media blasted with little plastic beads. Some of the cars he had there were really impressive.
I agree with Soaring that body work is super important, but that doesn't mean the quotes you got were too high. If you like his work and haven't found any one that can do it as well then it may be well worth the money.
One thing though, if you're going to DRIVE the car, then I wouldn't go too expensive, no matter how good of a job they do. IMO those really expensive jobs should be reserved for show cars that won't get beat up on the road or in parking lots.

Yea, I am glad that I am a moderatly good back yard painter, that is a lot of $bonz$ for a paint job.
I can do a fair to good paint job for much less, and I don't worry so much about that first scratch!

Will a $10,000 or $15,000 paint job be better than mine, damn right it will be better! (at least it better be!) To me a paint job can be too good for a driver, regardless of the quality of work that the owner of the body shop wants to turn out!

I agree... If it's a driver, don't go too expensive on the paint job.
However, I also had a heckuva time trying to get my vert painted. I took it down to metal, did the bodywork and primered it. All I needed was a final block sanding plus paint. Nobody wanted to touch the car. They kept telling me that they didn't do show cars no matter how loudly I said, "It's a DRIVER!" In the end, I had a high quote of $4200 and a low of $2000 from a kid who'd just opened his shop. I went with the $2000 job and it honestly looks perfect for a driver. Then again, so much of a paint job really is in the prep.

My car would be a weekend driver once its all said and done. Ive been figuring about $4000 for primer + paint, so $6-7000 is alot. He's the only shop Ive stopped to ask. I want a good quality job that will last quite awhile. Im going to have it painted inside and out, we'll most likely do the engine bay ourselves after its primed. I called my dad after I stopped in and he said that was too much too, but really...he does awesome work. If I had a fastback or any old hemi Id take it in there without question. I live around Portland, OR and I haven't found anyone else that does reliable work.
Where do u live?cuz i can drive mine to this shop, theyll take it apart do the body work and put it together for 8 grand which is the route im going at some point. My has an ok driver paint job on it but i still want better.
Are you sanding it down yourself or are you having them do it? Because that could save you a bundle, we sanded mine all the way down to the metal (well worth the effort) and the guy at the paint shop said that it would have been about $5k just for doing that.
