A Webber compared to an Edelbrock (or Carter) is like comparing a Rolex to a Timex; they both do what they are supposed to dobut the former mentioned one does it so much better.

It is my understanding that Weber makes the Edelbrock and Carter carbs, I understand that a "real" weber is quite a bit more of a carburator, but without a full understanding of just which carb the OP has, it is difficult to help!

If he has a "real" Weber it is my understanding that a PHD in carb theory and operation might help with the tune.

well, the light foot isnt an issue i dont get into it, my car was an I6 to start with, but all the suspension is already upgraded, the only 2 things lacking form the transfer is a rear end and all disc brakes, i noticed something else also, besides the intake leak the carb has an electric choke and it isnt hooked up (however you do that). could the wrong octane gas also have something to do with less mpg?
that could be your problem ( the choke) this would cause a dravability issue also but if youve had the problem the whole time you may not even notice it and be consitering it normal... since you say its an electric choke all you need to do it run the + wire to an ignition voltage and the - wire to a good ground (very commonly the bolts that hold the choke on work fine) now i dont know what kind of driving you do but even my 415ci winsor with a 750cfm carbdoesnt get that bad of mileage (assuming im trying to get good mileage of corse). to check and see if the choke is even working go out in the mornign before you start her up, and blip the throttle about half way.. that will engage the choke then take off your air filter and look into the carb and see if the primary venturies ar covered by a plate (thats the choke if you didnt know) if you can see the venturies then the choke isnt working anyway BUT it still could cause a problem. if its not closed make sure that it stays open and isnt just flappin around and could be sucked down onto the carb..

but the biggest thing is to keep your foot below 1/4 throttle and below 3k rpms

good luck! JOSH

Ok, first of all there's NO WAY a 331 is gonna get less than 4mpg unless it runs 9's in the 1/4mi naturally aspirated. Since I'm assuming it's a street motor there is prolly a VERY good chance you're fouling the plugs if it is sucking that much fuel, does it run like crap? You also said that the electric choke isn't hooked up? That could do it(or at least be part), you might be running with the choke plate closed and sucking more fuel(that's what a choke does). Also, check for leaks in the lines and around the tank. Drive it around the block, accelerate and deccelerate hard, and corner hard to really slosh the fuel around, if there's a hole or holes in the tank, it'll come out and run down and you can see it. At worst you prolly just need a new fuel tank, at best, wire up the choke. There may also be a tuning issue involved as well, but fix the excessive fuel problem first in the form of choke/leaks, then worry about tune if that doesn't fix it

Man, i havent even had time to get to it, its made me so sick i puked for 2hrs the other day thinking about selling it, i havent checked the choke or anything, but from what im reading that you guys are saying thats most likely the problem. Now i've got another problem its big brick and doesnt move, ya'll guessed it a house. So on top of the stress of having a messed up car i've got to deal with a bank. So now i really have no choice because of the lack of funding to put into my car. im going to hook the eletric choke up this afternoon and put it in the local market, but what makes me even more nervous is she'll be outta my hands and into the hands of someone who might let her sit outside in ......the weather. Just sit out there and not get taken care of, so im being very very picky about who buys my car, BUT i am staying in the mustang family looking for a 96-98 cobra to trade her for or sell her and buy.
IM getting sick just thinking about it, so if any of yall know someone that will take care of her and wants a classic; w/ all the original part everything from the I6 radiator all the way to the 1967 liscense plate frame that came with the car when the original owner bought it. The Factory parts are free with car. PLEASE PLEASE let me know

I am really sorry to hear that you are going to have to sell that Mustang. I can certainly understand that home and family have to come first, but it still sucks. I was very impressed at how quick you made everthing happen with your car, you must really have tallent in mechanics. I would see you post about a problem that I thought would throw up some real roadblocks for you, and by the time of your next post you had the problem resolved and were moving to the next issue. I am bothimpressed and motivated by your progress!!!

Again it sucks, I almost felt like I was a part of your build. If I thought that it would make the difference between you being able to keep that car or not, I would send you a carburator, especially since I am inclined to believe that you are serving (or have served)in the armed services. (I have a 600 Edelbrock that I know is good)

I wish you the best and I look forward to your continued participation in this forum. Considering the amount of work you did in such a short time I know that you have a lot to offer.

God Bless you and your family!

Thanks a lot man, yes i am a Marine, my wife didnt like me being gone all the time, but she loved the results of it and so did i (i got laid), she doesnt want me to sell but its whats best for now! One day in the near future ill have another one, i might even buy one from a guy here at work. its a 1966 gt red with white int and a rally pack w/ a bench seat! Yeah im sorta inclined mechanically not much most of what i did i had *** and 1/2 load of help on from my two friends who race all sorta stuff, between the three of use we can make anything work on any car. 1 guy fab's and welds, one guy does the research on how to fab, and i install and measure and take off and put on, so if you ever need a car stripped in 45mins keeping the glass and everything intact gimme a hollar, thats our average stripdown time on midsize cars. Everyone on this forum helped me in some way so you all really helped out. Everything reaches it limits of knowhow eventually, and some thing just cant b fixed my grammar being 1 of them. my biggest problem is righty tighty lefty loosey....that one gets me everytime!

So the only way i know to pay you guys back is give yall first shot at my new price on the car i was looking for 14k for everything all the original parts will come with the car for a restoration if you want, But i need a quick sll cuz i move the 29th so im only asking 11.5k now. Im really worried about selling it to someone who will abuse the classic.
