Iam planning to upgrade my steering from manual to power. I bought a complete set-up from www.chockostang.com. The guy told me the motor must be lifted to get the steering box out. My plan all along has been to pull the engine, replace gaskets, pretty it up, etc. Doing so will also make replacing all the steering components much easier. I also bought power front disc brakes from the same place and finished that upgrade 2 weeks ago.

Where in Houston are you going to be? I'm in the Clear Lake area.

Forget the Mustang.... I want to go for a ride in the family vehicle!! I have my private pilots license, but never made it past a Grumman Cheetah.

I'm planning on picking up a re-maned box from Johns Mustangs in SW Houston, on Glenmont. And it turns out they have the correct replacement bolts for the cross member. The family vehicle has been in the family for about 15 years now. *laughs* The mustang was in MUCH better condition when I bought it compared to the Bonanza. 75V had been gear-uped and was in need of some serious work. The wife and I replaced the bottom, the prop and rebuilt the engine. Took almost 9 years but now its a 160 MPH hauler, and it gets better mileage then the Mustang too. Normally we would have flown up to Houston but with the wife wanting to go to the Galleria, well that shot the hell out of getting back home in the daylight, so we are driving .

I hear ya about the Galleria shopping thing with the women. My brother lives in the Houston area out at Alief, and whenever we go visit, it's off to the Galleria with the women.
Are you planning to come to see me on the 4th of August so we can show our cars in the MOCA show in Austin? You have no excuse not to.

Glen, we arent quite ready to let this beast loose ont he public yet. Still needs a tad bit of body work, paint, new interior, and possibly a taller rear gear. That 4:11 is gonna eat gas!! But now that I know about it, I might bring the son up to Austin for the show and see what everyone else has and is doing. I think we both would enjoy it, we dont get a lot of excuses to get out together.....he's 18 and I'm 57....and God forbid should he be seen with his parents!! But the Mustang has brought us a bit closer together, and for thatit was worth thepurchase price. I'll see what I can do about talking him into going, and of course the wife will be wanting to go and see what kind of stores there are.

IT'S OUT!! Good thing I removed the cross member and the steering linkage, and both engine mounts (frame mounted and engine mounted), dropped the oil pan, raised the engine about 2 inches, and dismounted the mechanical clutch linkage. After taking all this out the damned box almost fell out and hit me in the head!! Now I know just how to get it back in, just hope I can remember where all these nuts and boltsgo. BTW guys...this is not a fun job.

Sounds like pulling the engine isn't such a far-fetched idea.

I don't know where you're coming in from, but next time you need to visit John's, you can fly to Hobby or Ellington or Pearland Regional and I could drive you there and back.

I've only had my '67 coupe for 2 months, but John already has over $1000 of my money! Most of that was an unplanned expense. I converted my manual drum brakes to power front-disc. Afterward, my rims didn't fit, so I bought some Magnum 500s from John. That place is dangerous, especially since I work less than 15 minutes away.
