It works similar to what you have, but leather instead of plastic, and the seam is
stiched together instead of wrapping plastic string around it to keep it in place.
And if I remember correctly costs about the same. I think I paid 5 bucks for mine.

Why have a cover at all? The cracks in the original wheel just gives it character.

The cracks...and the black gunk give it maybe too much character. I don't want to touch that with my hands! That leather sounds pretty good and it'd be a fun project to stitch it up.

I putleather covers on my steering wheels to give me a better, non-slick grip. I learned to drive in the winters of New England where gloves are a necessity and driving in snow and ice gets to be 'fun' - not. In the summer, the humidity makes the wheel very slippery. The plactic wraps looks like crap, I put that type on for several years until I 'discovered' the leather variety. With the except the wood grained steering wheel, leather wraps are installed on all my steering wheels and none have any cracks. If you have a classic 'cracked' wheel, I look at that as either your next project or you don't care. If the latter is the case, there are many other new discoverys made that you might look into - sliced bread, flush toilets, etc. Show some class.

I hope you didn't suggest that I don't care and that I have no class because I can't afford a new wheel at the moment. Thanks for your experiences with leather. I may do that later when I get an UNcracked wheel.

Thanks everybody, the leather sounds nice for when I get a new wheel. Have a nice day.

Hey where did you get that black plate that is behind your cd player? I have the same headunit and would like something to go behind it because the PO screwed up when cutting the dash.

I have no idea where that dash plate came from, the PO did it. I might be afraid to see what kind of job they did cutting that out...
