Pricing for Engine Rebuild
Obviously, you can read and type. Meaning that you can read that book and follow instructions. And if you need help understanding or figuring something out, you can type out a posting here and you about bound to get an answer. In my humble opinion, I suggest you give the engine rebuild a try. If you live near an Autozone, you can borrow the small tools you might need, like a ridge reamer for example. Rent a cherry picker (engine hoist) from a tool rental place or borrow one from a friend if you know of one. Take close up digital photos of everything you take apart. It will help you put everything back together properly. Use baggies for small parts and bolts/nuts/screws. Label the bags so you know what each group of parts/bolts go to.
If you decide not to do it yourself engine build, you might consider buying a rebuilt engine from an autoparts store. Most likely cheaper than having your mechanic do the work, plus you get a warranty. That's not to say your mechanic won't give a warranty too. You can change the engine yourself and save bucks on the labor. Plus, when all said and done, you will have a better working knowledge of how your pony works.
