Steering wheels
This is kinda off topic but still kinda informational. I was jsut watching the Indy 500 when they did a tech break and were talking about the steering wheels on these cars. If you think our steering wheels are expensive, try $48,000 for one of those wheels!! Dont think I'm gonna be getting one anytime soon.
I often wonder what it takes to finance a NASCAR racer. With the car alone it has to be a staggering figure, then add the salary of the driver, crew, a new engine for every race, a new body lots of times. It has to be a mind boggling figure.
Glen, the top teams....Childress....Evernham....and such, get any where from 18 to 22 million.....thats MILLION a year for each team, and some of these guys have up to 4 teams. Last I heard Dale Earnhart Jr was pulling down 8 million a year in salary. Usually a race ready car will go for about 100 to 150 thousand. Thats with complete drive train. And, the teams take 3 engines to each race, and 2 cars. Plus 10 or so transmissions, rear gears, lotta shocks, carbs, sway bars, a ton of springs. Wish I had the Snap-On concession just for thier hand tools. Each team will build upto 20 cars for a season. Different cars for different tracks. A Daytona car is different than a Texas car. BTW, I'm a NASCAR nut.
