Picture request
I need to see if anyone has a picture of the parking brake cable & bracket assembly under the car. Mine is clanking, and I have no idea why. It didn't do this before, but I tightened the PB cable, then it clanked, so I loosened it back, and it still clanks.
Oh, and it is an automatic. I am pretty sure that makes a difference

Hi again.
These are pictures of a 65, but the only difference would be that a 66 has one long cable that goes from one wheel through a curved bracket near the tranny and then back to the other wheel, while the 65 has two cables, one from each wheel, that both hook to a straight bracket. Yup, that's the only difference betweenthis 65 model 4-speed K-code and your 66 6cyl auto.Well, that and fuel economy, but other than that.....

From the looks of it (sorry, your AWESOME exhaust is in the way
), your bracket which holds the parking brake cable, which goes to the back, seems fairly centered along the driveshaft and in front of it.
Mine is off center (to the driver's side) and it is right even with the U-Joints

Hi again.
That is very kind of you to notice the exhaust. I hate having ugly exhaust bringing everything else down. I think that you might have found one of the symptoms of your problem. My first mustang was a 66 model 6cyl. The bracket that the cable loops around should be centered on yours also. The lever that has the long spring hooked to it, along with the equalizer rod that is holding the bracket which the cable loops around, has two holes in it. The spring is in one and the equalizer rod is in the other. If you have those two items in the wrong holes, it would do exactly what you have described. Hope that helps.

Hi again.
You wouldn't believe some of things that I've seen people do to their cars under the guise of 'fixing' something. If the previous owner did something as silly as that, saw the results, and decided that this would be ok,even though it is easily corrected,I would go over the entire car with a microscope, especially the things that might kill me, like brakes, steering and suspension. Then go to the stuff that might set my car on fire, like the entire electrical and fuel systems. Happy hunting.
