did it once or twice back as a mechanic. hated it. you need a LOT of force and my hands were sore for 2 days after doing that.
But I can't guarantee that the 2 parts you have will fit together. if they're not meant to be together they might tear.
So if you have someone who guarantees you that those parts will fit, then push away ;-)

I don't remember the foam being attached by anything when I did mine. I put my covers in the clothes dryer to get them pliable then just slipped them over the foam and started putting the hog rings on. It's really not rocket science, but you do need to have strong hands.

Yes you do! I got to go out for an hour or two and I'll make a copy of the seat upholstery when I get back.

This is a copy of one of the pages on seat upholstery from the 1966 Mustang Interior Assembly Manual. Yes, it's not rocket science, but if you don't know what to do and how, you can make a mess out of it. I've done a couple dozen front seats for 64 thru 70 Mustangs and all successfully. And use all new materials, burlap, felt, wires, etc.
The sequence of items and procedures are:
Note: For the wires involved, I use coat hanger wire. Quantity of hog rings is minimum.
1. Seat springs. Wire brush clean and paint first.
2. Burlap - 10hog rings to springs.
3. Felt around front and side edges - spray contact cement and 6 hog rings to springs.
4. Inner wire - 15 hog rings thru burlap to springs. It's a giant 'U' with 1/2 inch loops at the ends.
5. Foam - 8 hog ring to inner wire.
6. Seat cover - install inner wire in sewn in loop.
7. Seat cover - spray inner section and 18 hog ring seat wire thru foam and burlap to inner wire.
8. Install wires around the seat cover in the sewn in loop.
9. Sear cover - stretch from front to rear around bottom of seat frame and 18 hog ring the wire in the loop to frame and springs. Set the seat in the sun for an hour before you attempt this. I use 6 to 10 clamps to assist the stretching before I install the hog rings.
This is the way the factory did it in 1966 and the way upholstery shops do it now.
Jim

Yes you do!

Exactly...don't skimp by not attaching the foam to the seats!

By the way, I actually "learned" how they were attached as I dismantled the old seat covers. (Which was no easy task...I think a majority of my blisters came from twisting the old hog rings off.)

But I'm guessing by your position that you didn't have that opportunity? I'll see if I have any old digital pictures. God bless digital cameras...they've saved my tail I don't know how many times.
