Because it will bow the trunk as well. The tension bar in the trunk is VERY strong. WARNING: If you disconnect it yourself be very careful, it'll take your head off.
My hood is a fiberglass GT350 hood. When I had even the lite tension springs on it, it would bow in the center. See how it lays pretty flat now? Fiberglass body parts are tough enough to fit.
