What to do about cracked bondo
So, I was washing my car the other day and was leaning over to wash the windshield with my hand off to the side of the cowl vent (or whatever those holes are) and when I removed my hand I found that I had cracked some bondo. I didn't know it was there, so naturally a few expletives followed the find. Question is, what can I do about it as a short term fix to keep from rusting the metal underneath or is it something I need to worry about for now because I'm sure getting water trapped under there is not a good thing? I plan to have the car repainted someday, but it's going to be quite a while before that happens. I'd rather not have to remove it and rust proof the spot, thereby leaving a big primer spot in the middle of blue paint, but I'm not sure if that's my only option. What say you guys? What would you do?

You could take the bono off and fix the problem and instead of having a primer spot take your car to a paint shop and have them match your paint and re paint your cowl area. Painting that area would be rather aesy since it is a small area surrounded by body lines to make masking easier and not have to worry about blending aas much. If you really want to go easier alot of paint stores can put your paint that they match into a regular spray can.

If this is the case, I would do what was already recomended, mask off the area arround the cowl, remove all bondo, straighten as much as possibl, re-apply the filler correctly, block it smooth, prime, and take it to a body shop for painting. It should be relativly inexpensive.
If the chip is small, consider touching up the area with some matched paint, and wait until you paint!
You can probably fix it yourself by getting a spray paint from http://www.towerpaint.com then sand the area down to metal, replace the filler and repaint it.

It may be possible that the cowl grill 'fingers' are rusted beyond repair, hence the bondo. The metal itself should be strong enough to withstand some downward pressure. Evidently it didn't.
