my 347
I just got back from taking my 347 to a builder. He is a Ford man luckily. He has two rails and races every weekend during the season. He is going to disassemble the 347 and clean it making sure all is good. He will be installing head studs as well since bolts were used. I'm pretty stoked.

I may have some bad news. One of the cylinders has a deep scratch. My friend is going to measure the pistons to see if I can go with a bigger bore. That means mucho denero for more pistons. The pistons in there now were $700 on the receipt that I got from Matt.

It's funny you say that because that is exactly what I was thinking. I will find out how bad it is this week. I ran my finger nail across it and it's about as deep as a busineess card is wide.

oh hell, have them touch hone it in a machine (instead of handheld drill). this will make sure all the cylinders are back to being true (maybe even use a torque plate) and slap it together. use gapless rings and that little scratch will let less go by than you would loose from the gaps in normal rings.
i have once removed rust out of a couple 351M cylinders with sandpaper and a wire wheel and that car actually didnt smoke and still runs. i also used a roofing shingle and skateboard grip tape to knock rust down in the cylinder of a 460 and that thing still runs with no smoke too. so, +1 for macgyver skillz
