1965 289 Heads and Cam Swap ???'s
Ok, here it is. I had asked a while back, and while I got a lot of info, I still didn't quite get the information I was looking for. Thanks to all that threw there two cents in, I really appreciate your time and knowledge.
I have a 1965 coupe with a 289 that was rebuilt 6000 miles and 10 years ago. Nothing fancy, all stock type stuff. I now want to upgrade the heads and cam, so I bought an engine stand, I'm gonna pull the engine and give my first shot at installing major engine stuff. (wish me luck and send me links to "How To's" if you know 'em!)
My car has a Holley 4bbl and Performer Intake from Edelbrock now. The C4 was rebuilt with a mild shift kit, and the rear was taken to Currie and had a limited slip with 3.55's installed (again, all about 10 years and 6000 miles ago).
I do not drive this car often, or at least very far, and I have another means of daily commuting (see signature). I want the car to have a slight to med lope, sound good, and go like hell. Mpg, 100,000 mile warranties and they like are all concerns for Hyundai owners. I want fun. I have no power brakes, I don't need a lot of vacuum.
Since my first post I have found the Edelbrock Total Performance package. This sounds fun to me. For those not familiar, here are the specs of said kit:
POWER PACKAGE TOP-END KIT #2091 367HP/340 LB-FT OF TORQUE INCLUDES: Part No. Description 7122 Performer RPM Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam & Lifters 60229 (2) Performer RPM Cylinder Heads, complete 6991 Timing Cover Gasket and Seal Set 7364 Cylinder Head Gasket Set 7521 RPM Air-Gap 302 Intake Manifold 8524 Intake Manifold Bolt Kit 8552 Cylinder Head Bolt Set 7820 Performer-Link Timing Set
These heads are 1.90 intake. The cam is Hydraulic; 1500 To 6500 RPM; Valve Lift Intake .496; Exhaust .520; or so the site says.
As you can see, they claim 367hp and 340 ft-lbs. That sounds good to me, has anyone else tried this kit, know someone that has, or have any input? I plan on purchasing some roller rockers and new pushrods...any suggestions? I suppose I need 1.6 roller rockers (with my stock, non-notched pistons) and just some hardened pushrods, right? Will Jegs (or whoever) know what I'll need, or should I scour the internet for part numbers?
Thanks again to all that have helped, and all those that will this time as well. If I left any info that may be of assistance out, just let me know.

RE: 1965 289 Heads and Cam Swap ???'s
go for air flow research heads the 165's they will be the most powerful setup for and get a nice cam match to the gears and converter http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...ngine_buildup/

ther performer RPM heads are nice, but as noted the AFR 165's, trick flow twisted wedge, canfield 170's, or the RHS heads would be even better choices.
your in the right ballpark for the cam, and the intake sounds like a winner.

Of course I am sure you already know about the contrast of the above highlighted text, but anyway, roller is the way to go IMO. I like the specs of what you listed above, it should make a sweet ride.
