Default First engine build! question already! help!

OK... I finally have all the parts to start and finish my 302 engine build!!! Pics will be coming very soon!

My question is about intake gaskets... I'm going to gasket match my heads and intake. My question is where does the gasket go??? Does it align just the best i can by eye on the heads? then how do i know where it will line up on the intake? The instructions mentioned using a cemet or adhesive to hold it on the heads and let it dry then after drying to put on the intake... any help??? Yes this is my first engine... and this forum is the only way i'm going to make it through!

I am farmiliar with gasket matching but I have never done it, but, I would think that you can align the gasket by running bolts through the gasket and into the respective piece you are working on (head or manifold). In the examples I remember, a dye or bluing agent was used to mark the placeswhere the metalwould need to be ground out. An adhesivemight help to keep everything in place, but youmight not be able to use the gaskets for their intended purpose after gluing them down.

Thanks! I've been screwing around with them all night and researching and using the bolts is working really well for me so far! This weekend i should finish the gasket match job and i'll post pics for everyone, i'm going to take pics of the whole build and install so people can learn from me figuring it all out! Thanks again for the reply... i'm going to search for that blue dykem tomorrow.

Yeah, use some blue RTV sealant especially around the water jacket areas. Let the RTV set up and harden for awhile so that it acts like a gasket and not a mushy pile of gel.
