i have only seen 3 bench seat mustang in my life and im counting yours as one lol.it looks alot better then my 68 when i got it and you probably paid less for yours maybe free huh.id keep the bench seat rest is up to you, you can restore it back to factoy shape or restomod good luck hope to see more pictures of it.and welcome to the forum when you get the time look at the faq theres tons of great links and info in there.
Oh the bench seat definitely stays. If nothing else it is a conversation piece. In addition, it is just as comfortable as the factory buckets.

I am going the restomod direction.

More pictures and progress reports soon. I have actually gotten quite a bit done since I got the car home.

I had to literally drag a car out of storage one time too. My rear drums were frozen to the hubs because I used the emergency (parking) brake when I stored it. I wasn't thinking. Yours looks like a pretty solid beginning. Good luck with it.

plcdude,

Welcome to the forum. Your story sounds an awful lot like mine (I bout mine in '86 for $900...it sat in my garage for 14 years).

My Mustang was made late in the year (May, 67) and it also has a bench seat. She started out as a C-code automatic and is now an a-code manual. The bench seat is still there and I wouldn't part with it. I believe that I have some pics of my interior in my profile. I am updating the interior to be a modified version of a deluxe (roof console, aluminum dash, the new TMI aluminum door panels, a 68 Shelby shortened floor console, deluxe seatbelts) so I'll post those when I am done.

Very nice.

My vinyl is good, carpet is ok, dash is in need of work, dash pad is trashed, and headliner needs replacement. I have not really given much thought to interior. Still working to get car to a driveable state.

The back drums came loose with a few well placed hammer taps. I literally had to pry the front drums off. Shoes were really stuck to the drums. Needless to say the front drums are in really bad shape.

I am giving serious thought to simply upgrading the front brakes to the Granada disk setup. I don't think the cost is much more versus redoing the front drums. Any thoughts?

First significant project: Replace battery box inner fender area.

After getting an Eastwood spot weld cutter (what a great invention) and cutting out all of the spot welds the old panel came out fairly easy (probably because there was not much left of it [&:]). Got a new panel from American Pony and messaged it a little to fit. Drilled holes in the new panel to duplicate the spot welds. Measured, measured, and measured again to make sure that it was in the right place and started tacking and welding. After a little grinding and paint I think it turned out pretty good.

Here are some before and after pictures.
