Ignition problems?
Hello everyone! This is pretty much my time posting on the forums, although I use it constantly for information. I'm still pretty new to the whole car thing, but I couldn't pass up the deal I got on my mustang. I have a '69 coupe with a 302; and until last week, it ran wonderfully; no concrete problems except for the ones that one would expect from a 30+ year old car. I have kinda of a weird combination for an ignition system (at least thats the consensus of all that I have asked so far); I have a MSD Blaster 2 for an ignition coil, while the distributor is a Mallory Unilite. The problem started when the little power filter (used for power spikes is what the documentation said) fell off its velcro attachment and melted. I thought no big deal, simple replacement and I'll be on my way. Well, I replace the part and now the car won't fire. The engine turns over just fine, but it won't fire. I just came back from replacing the wires from the ignition coil to the distributor (the were looking kinda haggard) but it didn't help in the slightest. I even went as far as to take the power filter off, and I kinda got it started. I had to keep my foot on the gas and it still cut out regardless. Now even that doesn't work. Any suggestions on what to do next?
Hmmm... upon some more fiddling, I finally got it to fire, and it ran just fine. However, the I let it idle for a couple minutes and it died again. I think maybe the distributor rotor/ cap is dirty not allowing a proper spark to occur. How might one clean this?
