72 mach 1
its not on the inner fender, that was the 2nd place i looked cause thats where its at on my 66, but it was nowhere to be found, the only thing was a stamping on the fender and i forgot what it was but it definetly wasnt a vin #
the only vin # i can find is the one on the plate inside the windshield
there is a sticker on the passenger side of the cowl that says the car is supposed to have a 302 in it
basically, the vin says mach1 302 2bbl, the car has a 302 2bbl, but none of the other mach 1 features (other than it being a sports roof)
didnt later models have a # on the engine?

No VIN on the fender aprons for the newer Stangs. It may be under the fender somewhere, but it is definitely not visible without disassembly.
OP...Do you have the door tag info? Not all Mach's came with a tach, the standard was a clock. It should have the three gauges in the center stack. Other things: Urethane front bumper (standard for other models in 71/72 was steel..even the Boss), NASA hood, pop-open gas cap, 2-spoke steering wheel, knitted vinyl seats with vertical accents, andrear stabilizer bar. Don't forget the honeycomb rear panel around the gas cap, too.

this car just doesnt add up, it has the honey comb panel, but not the pop open cap, 2 spoke steering wheel, but no tach, just a speedo and the other warning light thing, i dont think it has an antisway bar either
it has the nasa hood but no ram air, idk what this car is
did ford ever make a mach .5? lol

the pop cap was only 71. a 302 mach 1 wouldn't have the ram air option just plastic insertes to plug the holes from rain(even if it did a lot of them have be removed due to warpage). does it have or have mounts for the chin spoiler? The vin number on 72's are located under the fender, which means you'll have to remove the drivers side fender to locate it. i thought it was also on the firewall as well. The disc brakes may have been an option on the car too but i cannot recall.
door tag is gone or covered up with paint, they were just sticker decal tags in 72, not the metal stamped tags like earlier cars, the car is at my grandpas in a shed so next time im up there im going to loosen one of the fenders up and see what i can find
I too have a 72 Mach 1 with the Fcode 302. I have not seen any stickers on the car other than the VIN on the windshield. From the research I have done, in 72, the Mach 1 was primarily a decorative upgrade, but otherwise what we in the auto business call "a bean can" which is to say, minimally equipped.
Mine has drum brakes all around, the Fcode 2v 302, freshly derated tosatisfy emissions. No power steering, no power barkes. It has a screw cap on the gas, the naca hood with intakes blanked, a urethane front bumper, stripes on the sides and rear, a rear wing and a tach. Of course, it is impossible to tell how much of this may have been later additions or if there were deletions.
I have seen Mach1s with no stripes so I don't kow how much of the traditional equipment is required for an authentic example.
There are books and lists out there that list the equiupment.Unfortunately, I just moved and everything I have is packed.
I never researched the minimum equipment level for a Mach 1 as mine appeared to be genuine. There are greater experts than I on this forum who may be able to give you a definitive answer.
Good Luck!
