Trying to track down an 65.
Back in the late 70's my father purchased a 65' Fastback and began restoring it for his first car. Due to an unfortunate incident, the car was sold out from under him. This still irks him to this day. We have owned many cars since then, and are now in the process of restoring a C3 'Vette, but no matter what we have looked to buy, he stil longs for his old 65.
While cleaning up the garage, I have found an old plaque he had with the car's VIN on it. I was going to purchase a Marti Report, but that only covers the 67+.
We are looking to find out more information on this car, running or not, in hopes to purchase it for his birthday. Is there anywhere I can look? Is there anyone I can PM the VIN to who may be able to atleast let me know if the car has not been crushed, who may own it, etc?
Any help would be appreciated.

Man, that is a heart breaking story and one I wish we could solve for you and get that old Mustang back for your father. The only thing I can think of is to write to or go to the DMV in your area and give them the VIN and have them try to track it down. Thank God you have the VIN, otherwise it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Thanks for the kind words. I didn't really divulge the whole story, maybe when I find out more info on the present state of the car. What I do know is that it actually was owned by Ford, and had a few factory "tweaks" under the hood, a T-10 trans, and a few other things.
I am happy I found the VIN, because he is just so mad about the whole situation he refuses to be brought into a conversation about the car. I do not want to give out all the information at this point just in case someone on the found here is a friend of ours and that they'll ask him about it.
I didn't think the DMV/SOS would do that anymore? I'll go check on Thursday.
