Why?
The whole reason for pins is because fiberglass isn't strong enough to stay lock downed with only the center latch at high speed. The edges will start to curle up on and eventually it will let to.
Even with fiberglass over metal frame (like my hood) I ended up needing pins because of the fiberglass roll on the edges. With a metal hood you have none of these problems.

IMO, it's bad form to use hood pins if you don't need them. With a metal hood, I can't figure out why you'd need them.

i have hoodpins on eveything i have owned even my truck.most racing events what you to have them in case your latch breaks loose also can save weight with out a latch and is easyer to open the hood. i have had a hood come open on me on the interstate here trust me it wasnt fun scared the hell out of me.
Serious question, how are you guys having so many hoods come open on you? Is it from faulty equipment or failure to completely latch them? Besides the dowel pin, there is a secondary latch held in the closed position by springs. What am I missing or have I just been lucky?
Luck - sure. Well I've not had the experience of a hood going up, up and away, but - it was a NHRA and SCCA requirement a while back, so it happened. I put pins and got locks to fit on my original 66 Fastback. They kept prying eyes out very well. I lived in an apartment.

I don't like those key-lock ones. Having had a couple of engine fire experiences puts a new prespective on being able to open the hood quickly. They are nice in that they protect your car from thieves but I would use the wire-ring ones if at all. The best are the twist ones on the 70-73 Mustangs.

you mean like these....the factory hoods were modified to fit them on our cars (GT and GS Falcons from 1970-75). Did they use these factory on any mustangs?
