Default suspension upgrade

need suggestions on where to get kits, and what kits to get. I brought my '65 home today, and after seeing how rusted the front drums are and how the wheels rub when I turn, first thing I am doing is front suspension upgrade and front disc conversion. I know where to get the front disc conversion kit from, just want to find a decent suspension upgrade that won't break the bank since I am already putting $600 into the brakes. I found the laurelmountain mustang kit on e-bay for like $250, but it doesn't include springs or shocks, but I figured I could get those seperately or at Autozone or something. Let me know what you guys did. Thanks.

the complete kit from laurel mountain kits is nice with theshock springs etc for around 800$ thats front and rear might as well do it all at once then you know you have a good foundation to start with. the shock id go with are kyb's it will definitely be cheaper to go with a kit then buying it in pieces in the long run also heres a good article on how to seperate the ball joints and tierods etc http://www.mustangsplus.com/tech/sho...shockfall1.htm

Yes, if you get it all now it is much cheaper in the long run. I upgraded the springs to 620lb and 5 leaf mideyes and deleted the steering parts and it came to the same price. If your considering the Granada swap then you wont need some of the steering anyways..

I know it is cheaper to do it all at once, but between that and the Granada swap, I would be tapped for a while and if something came up, I couldn't do anything about it. Ok, so leave the steering parts out, that is a good idea. My suspension parts all actually look to be in good shape as far as rust goes. Let me ask this, what parts should I infact replace? Would the springs that come with the kit as is be sufficient? I like the 5 leaf idea since my rear is on shackles, I think that might allow me to get rid of those and eleminate tire rub in the rear if there is any. I really don't know what I need at this point. What I can say is that the suspension is VERY soft. Especially when I turn.

Oh yea, important question...this is a V6 swap to a 302 that has a 5 lug conversion. Would I need V6 suspension parts, or V8 suspension parts? Does it matter? How would I be able to tell which I needed by looking?

Anything with a bushing will probably need replaced, unfortunetly, thats about everything. On mine, the balljoints were blown out, control arm bushings shredded, springs and shocks saggy, etc.

Yes, steering cut out 122 bucks of the kit when I bought it and the upgrade was 85 more I think. Overall, for front and back, I only spent 677.The few things the kit doesnt include (rear shock mount, strut rods, shock caps...), you can use becuase they are non-wearing parts.

If your car has been converted to a 302, get v8 suspension. Im not sure of the differences between 6 and 8 though.

What makes you suspect that the cause of the rubbing is the suspension? What size tires/wheels are on the front? Need to see the tire size, wheel diameter, wheel width, and backspacing.

very true, but the suspension does seem very soft. I will see if I can't track that info down here in a bit...

Hey baddog...that price range sounds reasonable...any chance you could PM me a list of what you bought? I noticed on the laurelmountial mustangs website you have to pick by piece. I know I am asking you to do my leg work, but I am kind of new to this game and want to make sure I get what I need. Any additional help is greatley apprecaited.

Tires are 205/70R14, wheels have a 2" back spacing from what I can tell....or close to it. Is that the problem?

That tire size is pretty small, you shouldnt be rubbing unless your suspension is collapsed. Maybe its soft enough that your rubbing the suspension snubber, which would explain it being louder in turns since the shifting weight would push more.

Blue, the 677 was also without shipping since I could drive and it would have been outrageous. And, the prices have gone up alittle so you wont be getting it that cheap...

Ill give you a list when I get on my home computer...

Edit: Oh, and you never specified if you are getting the Granada swap or not. The 600 bucks makes me think your considering the kit from Degins though. If so, those wheels will not fit. You'll need minimum of 15"
