Just for reference, the 68 spacer length is 2 1/2 inches - mounting surface to mounting surface. Ford measures spacers to the top of the fan locator post which is listed at 2.95 inches.

Let me clarify Jeff's post - get the shroud as close to the radiator as you can, flush if possible. The fan should draw air thru the radiator, not from the space between the radiator and shroud. Fan spacing is another item.

I had always heard that the fan should fit about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way into the neck of the shroud for the the fan to work in the most efficient manner. Somthing about enhancement of the areodynamic properties of the fan....???

so the fan does not fit inside the shroud?

Your fan is exactly where it should be. Your only problem is that you are hitting in a corner of the shorud.Bend that corner a bit so the fan clears.

a rat-tail file works great to message the screw holes for extra movement, and yep, I have to make adjustment to mine also to clear hose clamps and fan.

The mustang is off at the exhaust shop, but before I dropped it off there I measured the fan. It is a 5 bladed aluminum type. I measured it to be 17 and 3/4 inches. I measured from tip to tip of the blades that were farthest apart (which is difficult on an odd numbered blade). The only info I found was that in one of my catalogs, it said 17 inch diameterfor the fan. Can anyone measure their fan for me? I just want to confirm I have the wrong one before I buy a new one. 65/66 w/289.

Thanks
Dan

That would make it a 34" fan, a little big to fit in the engine compartment.
