Default 4100 carb, spacer and intake?

I have a chance to pick up a 4100 carb, spacer and intake for a 289 (cheap.) The only thing is that it did not come off a Mustang. Is there a difference between the 289 Mustang and say another 289? Im not concerened with numbers mathing.

Thanks

The four barrel intake manifold used on most Mustangs was one originally used on a Fairlane. The spacer was a 'generic' Ford part as well. The carburetors however, for 66, all hadMustang specific part numbers. In general, the carb will work, it's just not Mustang.

A 4100 is a 4100 is a 4100. It is an Autolite/Motorcraft 4100 carburetor that Ford used in many applications, and "Mustang" is not stamped on any of them.

If it's a 289 it's the same intake all 289's came with with a 4100 carb.

unless it had a Z in the sequence of the part number (tag). By the way, I just got my 4100 back from Pony and it looks amazing! I just hope it performs better than it looks!

All 4100s are not created equal as they were used on many different engines including big blocks.
You want the one with 1.08 stamped in a circle on the driver's side of the front bowl.
This would be a 480 cfm carburetor which is the one you want for a stock 289.
If 1.13 is stamped on the side it's the bigger carburetor, made for any number of Ford's larger engines and hipos. The larger 4100 will work on a 289 but you will be over carbureted.

Post what's stamped and written on the driver's side bowl and baseplate. Someone will tell you exactly what you have.
