Default Early vs. Late fastback seat hardware

I have an early style seat stop that is shaped like a 'pup tent' as opposed to the later style that looks shaped like little scoops. Are these parts interchangeable assuming you also changed the rubber stops at the end of the seat? It doesn't look like it would be, but I'm not sure. The early seat stops are right at the edge of the chrome edge whereas the later style seem to be further towards the center. If they are not interchangeable and the bump stops are in different places on the edge of the seat, it would also mean that the chrome seat trim would also be slightly different at the bumpstops. If that holds true, I would think it would be safe to say that the repop chrome trim is made for the later, more plentiful model, correct? My chrome is decent, which apparently may be a good thing if the repop won't fit, but I wouldn't mind them being better. Perhaps I'm SOL?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yup, you're SOL. The seatframe chrome pieces are different. Early 65 Fastback, which is what you got, uses the 'bracket' type of stop and the frame has a 'rubber baby buggy bumper' type of cushion on the seat to match. Real late 65 Fastbacks (don't know the transition date) went to the cup on the rear deck and the 5/16-18 threaded in stud bumper. Now my fine feathered friend, I just so happen to have a re-chromed early 1965 Fastback rear fold down seat frame piece you are looking for. (I actually have two, but one is mine and there is absolutely no way you are getting it.) The item in question has a few ill placed dents and bumps. If you are interested, do the PM to me.

Yeah, I figured as much. What got me wondering initially was that I had purchased some use fastback repop seat replacement parts still in the packagingoff of Ebay. One of those parts was a pair of bumper with the threaded stud and jam nut like you mentioned. I thought it odd but didn't really give it too much thought that things may not be interchangeable until reading your reply about how to remove the rear seat. You mentioned two of the retaining screws being through the brackets which mine are not.

At any rate, the chrome trim that the rubber bumpers screw into are in good shape. The pieces most weathered are on the flat portion fixed to the floor, specifically towards the rear. They are victims of a previous leaky rear window (better the chrome than the floorboards thank goodness). I'm guessing (hoping) that all the chrome pieces except the one the at the leading edge that the bumpers thread into are the same. If that is the case, I would likely be okay if I ever switched.

Thanks for the offer Jim, but I think I'm going to finish getting the car back together and see how much it bothers me. I still have to pay the painter, buy a Rally Pac and re-reupholster a seat.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
All the 65 and 66Fastback aftermarket rear seat trim pieces are the same except the front one with the bumpers. I don't think that the early seat was tapped for the later bumpers, so there's something else for you to consider.
