c4 gearbox help!!
ok iv got a 67 mustang with a 302w i have just brought, its got a new 302 motor, it was out wen i got it, iv just put the gear box back in, and wen i went to start it, it did start but there was a loud tapping noise made by the gear box.. i turn it off, i pulled the inspection cover at the bottom of the c4 off and started it again, i found that there was a balancing weight on the ring gear and that was hitting every so often on the starter motor and sheet metal cover between the c4 and motor, i then got 2 washers and put the washers in between the starter motor and the gear box.. it only hits wen starting now.. and fine wen in idel, but wen i took it for a drive, it would hit again wen i gave it some gas, wat should i do? how should it be...? I had the same problem.If the 302 is a late model then u have to use the flexplate and harmonic balancer for the conversion of a late model 302 to an early style c4.Mustangs Plus sells it..Thats it id bet.
