rust removers and coatings
Hello I was wondering if anyone here has used any of the rust remover prodcts eastwood company has and if so did they work? What did you think of them? I'm also looking into getting a 66 mustang that needs new floors and probably some other things. I'm looking to coat as much of that stuff as possible to keep it from rusting again. I know por-15 is supposed to be real good, but are there any other products out there you folks have used that you have been impressed with? Thanks for your input!
If the rust is not structural, ie., surface rust that has noworries about the strength/integrity of the structure, then Ospho is a good product. It's basically a phosphoric acid wash that, when applied, converts the surface rust from Iron oxide to Iron phosphate...a hard, black...airtight material.
For floorboards areas that are not pitted/weakened, I would lightly with a wire brush, vacuum/blow off the loose materials, wash with Ospho, leave 24 hours. then come back and prime/paint to seal.
