removing engine
ORIGINAL: boogerschnot
You dont need to pull the tranny with the engine, not unless you plan on working on the tranny too... If its an auto, then you just pull the inspection plate off the tranny and rotate the crank by hand at that pully to get all of the torque converter bolts (4-6 depending on tranny) and then the engine will slide right out once the motor mounts and bell housing bolts are out,, I used a lift plate attached to my intake ,, it was really easy to do, and I did it by myself. Just support the tranny with a spare jack..

Sound familiar? JamesW has the preferred method to hook up the engine and tranny, but you can also get a plate that fits where the carb bolts onto the intake and pull it that way. There's more than one way to skin a cat.
I've seen those plates that bolt to the carb studs, but I've always been afraid of use one. Afraid it would strip out and fall (yeah..unfounder fear, I know). Plus it's hard to tilt the motor from that single point.
I like using the 4 corners, but you have to be very careful when rotating to not put the distributor (if installed) in a bind. It can easily be damaged.
The load leveler is a really nice option...just crank in the angle you want...no fighting it. I've removed and reinstalled several times by myself using this.

Like I said, your way is the preferred way, but it can be done several different ways. Either four corners or criss cross corners works too. My first engine pull many years ago was with a three legged puller. Needless to say, I learned from that dumb assed mistake.
